Damp Treatment
This chimney breast had significant rising damp that had saturated the brickwork from the base upward. We knocked off all plaster up to a height of 1.2 metres, treated the brickwork and applied a salt-resistant sand and cement render to prevent further rising damp.
Before
Damp damage concealed beneath old plaster. Tide marks, salt deposits and staining at the base of the skirting board indicated significant rising damp in the chimney breast.
During
Old plaster hacked off to expose the brickwork. The extent of moisture penetration is clearly visible — dark, saturated bricks across the full face of the chimney breast and the adjoining wall.
After
A new salt-resistant sand and cement render applied to the chimney breast and surrounding walls, preventing further rising damp.
Penetrating Damp
Water had been penetrating around the window frame and saturating the brickwork below the sill on both sides of the bay. In addition to the window frame leaking, there was also rising damp present. We stripped back the damp-damaged plaster to expose the affected brickwork, dried it out and applied a new salt-resistant sand and cement render throughout.
Before
Damp staining and deteriorating plaster below the window sill. Moisture had been penetrating around the window frame and tracking down into the wall below.
During
Damp-damaged plaster stripped back across the full width of the window bay, revealing heavily saturated brickwork below the sill and on both sides. The extent of water penetration is clearly visible in the dark, wet brick.
After
Salt-resistant sand and cement render applied to the full area below and around the window with a final top coat of plaster applied, preventing further penetrating damp.
